World Cup in SC?

Okay here's the deal...as i woke up this morning Lucy told me that the upstate may host the world cup. i thought this was yet another april fools day joke (it lasts all month for her). She saw it on the news this morning it swore it was in the paper...still i was a doubter...but she found the article online and now i am a believer. Go Here for the article... We will get back to that in a second...

But can you imagine??? Kaka and Messi and Rooney and Ronaldo (maybe both if the fat one stays on form) walking the streets of Clemson...I may have died and gone to heaven...

I know Clemson and Columbia do not have a legitimate hope of getting the nod...but what if? There are so many reasons why they shouldnt come to these venues but a first round World Cup match in Death Valley?
wow...And really there are some huge reasons why they should come to Clemson...This is real America...not saying that the usual big city options arent but Clemson represents what makes the United States great in its small town feel and honest attitude towards life. Places like Clemson could help the USA get back its warm fuzzies from the rest of the world. It used to be considered one the best places in the world but internationals have become disillusioned with Lady Liberty and its time for us to fight back.

Anyways, back to the article...check out some of these comments...especially ruvidu and soundminded...what a bunch of hillbilly tripe...i mean can they be serious? I know the united states is behind when it comes to soccer but come on...
soundminded says

"Wow, why so fired up about getting thousands of hooligans and brawlers coming here to spoil the beauty of this state and area? I for one would be happy tif the soccer world cup never makes it to the USA.
But ... the $$$$$$$$$$.s by the million are blinding even the best of folks, I suppose.
And what's the old historic flag got to do with it? Just wondering."

is this really a serious comment? "Thousands of hooligans and brawlers"? Has this guy seen Green Street Hooligans a few too many times? Although it is a fine movie, i dont think it is a proper view of the footballing world...As long as we have people that are outspoken in this way we always be the rednecks of the world...i think outspoken and ruvidu should go back to their nascar and wrestling and all that other stuff we love as americans...

People are going to have to start embracing soccer in this country...the grassroots programs are exploding and the youth of america are going to soccer, not baseball...the world is changing...imagine if we can get our superior athletes on the soccer field and not in the traditional american sports...if that ever happens, watch out world...

I am sorry for the rant and rave but soccer is something i am passionate about...its not just the sport but the culture and how wide reaching it can be...is there any wonder why it is the biggest sport in the world by far? what is the united states missing? i think once we give it is proper chance we will see...

And as for the flag, let not even get that started...i have heard, "heritage not hate" a few too many times...That may be true but do you sacrifice the feelings of so many others just so you can show off a flag? is it really about heritage? i think not...
