Jimmer Has Landed!

Last night the first few round of the NBA draft went down. My favorite player in the draft (and probably in the world) Jimmer Fredette went tenth to the Milwaukee Bucks. Through some backroom dealings he ended up with the Sacramento Kings. Do I like the Kings? I didnt, but I do now!

As far as Jimmer goes.... How could you not like the guy? He looks like the lost member of the Beastie Boys and his name is Jimmer.  How could a guy like that looks like that go 10th in the NBA draft? The guy is pretty okay at basketball....

He is from small town of about 15,000 in New York. In his senior year of high school he had 12 different 40 point games in a 27 game season. People knew he could score but he was generally overlooked by all the big power school and ended up getting 12 scholorship offers from such basketball powerhouses as BYU, Siena, Fordham, Massachusetts, and Utah.

We all know what happened next.... He didnt get serious playing time until his sophomore year and he was named all conference.  Jimmer's junior year was huge for him. He started piling up points and breaking records. The defining game of the year is when he scored 37 in the NCAA tournament and took down Florida. This is when the Legend of Jimmer began for the nation and when people started to believe in him.
His senior season was something out of a movie. It seemed like he did something more amazing every game.
He was guarded by the other teams best defender every night and usually double or triple teamed and still averaged almost 30 per game.
He won a few awards:
  • 2011 Naismith Award
  • 2011 Oscar Robertson Trophy
  • 2011 Adolph Rupp Trophy
  • 2011 John R. Wooden Award
  • 2011 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award
Collected a few honors:
  • 2011 National Player of the Year
  • 2011 MWC Player of the Year
  • 15X MWC Player of the Week
  • 4X Tournament MVP (2011 MWC Championship, 2010 South Padre Island Invitational, 2009 Las Vegas Classic, 2009 Fiesta Bowl Classic)

And set a few records:
BYU:
  • Most Points Scored (game) (52 pts)[18]
  • Most Points Scored (season) (1068)
  • Most Points Scored (career) (2599)
  • Most Free Throws Made (game) (23)
  • Most Free Throws Made (season) (252)
  • Most Free Throws Made (career) (627)
  • Most Field Goals Made (game) (22)
  • Most Field Goals Made (season) (346)
  • Most Three-Point FGs Made (game) (9)
  • Most Three-Point FGs Made (season) (124)
  • Most Three-Point FGs Made (career) (296)
  • Most 30-point games (career) (24)
  • Most 40-point games (career) (6)
MWC:
  • Most Points Scored (game) (52)
  • Most Points Scored (season) (1068)
  • Most Points Scored (career) (2599)
  • Most Field Goals Made (season) (346)
  • Most Field Goals Made (career) (838)
  • Most Three-Point FGs Made (career) (296)
Not bad for a 6'2" kid from NE New York....

This is how a writer for SI described his game,
Facing the opposition's best defender (or, more often, defenders), he pulls up going right or going left. He shoots off the dribble, off the wrong foot, off balance, off the glass. He finishes in traffic with a dozen deft moves, including a funky scoop shot, originating from his waist, that he can make with either hand.

While in college, he had a few NBA player admirers.... Kevin Durant said on Twitter, "Jimmer Fredette is the greatest scorer in the world!!". Steve Nash said, "Jimmer Fredette? Man, that name's straight outta Hoosiers. No wonder he never misses...".

I like him so much because he is super hard worker and never backs down from any challenge. He has the confidence and swagger that all good scorers have to have. And he would play inmates at the local prison to work on his toughness.  I'm sure you have all heard about that, but if not go check it out.

I could go on and on about Jimmer, but lets look at some media.... That is more fun anyway....

This photo made the cover of Sports Illustrated and is pretty dang awesome...

People also turned his name in to a verb and a whole T-shirt industry was started....This is my favorite from Ebay...

And a song and video were put out.... Teach Me How to Jimmer.

And he can shoot from sort of far out....

A pretty good mixtape

And he can even dunk! Sort of....

There is a ton of stuff out there so let me know if you think I missed something important!

I am really excited to see Jimmer play in the NBA and I think if he continues to work in the same way that got him this far he will do just fine. Go Kings! And get those #32 jerseys ready for the masses!
